Africa has the youngest population in the world, with 70% of the sub saharan Africa under the age of 30. Such a high number of young people is an opportunity for the continent's growth but only if they are fully empowered to realise their best potential.
Considering Uganda, 78%of its population is below 35 years and 70% of this population is unemployed and not engaging in any productive activity. This rate (unemployment) is even higher for those that have formal degrees and live in urban areas and this due to disconnect between the degree archived and the vocational skills required for the job market.
For this reason, a team of young men and women met in 2023 to ponder about the future of the generation and the gist of this meeting was that "our generation is endowed with knowledge however this knowledge is just spoken about and not practiced". Hence "Youth Word to Hand Initiative" whose main aim is to empower and equip the youth with the neccessary apparatus to take action and bring about a change in their communities. We intend to do this through;
Skilling and tooling, mindset change, entreprenuership and innovation, climate advocacy with a target of engaging every youth into productive activities which in turn will triger growth and development of the entire present and future generation.
To answer the youth economic question by promoting sustained inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full productive employment anddescent work for all the youth.
To carry out mindset change activities for youth to participate in programs for their socio-economic wel being.
To push for youth participation in the green economy.
To carry out skills development programs for youth across the country throught technical trainings.
To push for an increase in youth involvement/inclusiveness in decision making process for the youth voices to be heard and actions to be taken appropriately.
To identify and develop youthful talents through sports, art and creative sectors.
To create platform for youth engagement to be able to share their experiences and contribute their unique perspectives for others to learn from.
To help the youth to discover and aligh their identities with their purpose in life.
